JDGS takes a long-term approach to building specialist businesses. We do more than establish companies or provide capital. The group is actively involved in developing the operational, technical and intellectual foundations on which its businesses are built.
Some ideas need time. Research programmes, specialist knowledge, intellectual property, technical infrastructure and credible organisations are rarely created quickly. JDGS therefore approaches business building with a long-term perspective rather than treating launch or short-term exit as the objective.
Our involvement extends beyond ownership. Depending on the needs of a business, JDGS can contribute to operations, financial management, technology, infrastructure, research, business development and the practical work required to turn an idea into a functioning organisation.
The businesses within JDGS operate independently, but they do not always need to recreate the same foundations. Capabilities can be shared across the group in areas including technology, infrastructure, finance, operations, research, business development and digital systems. This allows specialist businesses to remain focused on their own subject areas while drawing upon wider group capability where useful.
A significant part of building specialist businesses is creating things that did not previously exist. Across the portfolio this can include software, research, methodologies, technical systems, brands, datasets, publications and other intellectual property. JDGS provides a long-term environment in which those assets can be developed and connected to viable organisations.
The portfolio is deliberately diverse. A life-science research initiative should not look or behave like an agricultural publication or an infrastructure company. JDGS therefore does not attempt to impose a single public identity across its businesses. Instead, each develops its own expertise, audience and identity while benefiting from shared foundations behind the scenes.
