Noviota is the life-science business at the centre of JDGS’s Life Science portfolio, working on computational and programmable biology for infectious disease and immunology. Its own businesses include Molecular Precision, One Health Security and Botanicals & Co, but Noviota’s own research programme is worth a closer look on its own terms.
A deliberate progression: representation, modelling, reasoning, design
Noviota’s research begins with a fundamental question: how can biological systems be represented well enough to reason about them computationally without losing the biological meaning that makes those systems useful? Much of what is known about infection and immunology remains distributed across scientific literature, experimental observations and databases built primarily for human interpretation rather than computation.
Noviota’s stated method follows a deliberate progression — representation, then modelling, then reasoning, then design — on the view that reliable reasoning depends on representations that preserve the underlying biology, and that design depends on models that can be interrogated rather than treated as opaque predictions. Its current work includes research spanning infectious disease, immunology, computational biology and longer-term work on biological design, alongside Sybil, an experimental domain-specific language for representing biological systems in structured, inspectable form.
A working publication
Noviota publishes its research notes, technical work and longer-form writing through its own Insights page as the programme develops, rather than maintaining a high-volume corporate blog. It also details its wider collaborations on its Partnerships page.
